Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010





It is my first 10km running event for year 2010 and I was still hopefully for a PB although my conditions are not ideal, feeling sore on both my glutes and luckily my backache is not as bad as it was after 2 days rest . As usual I will set myself a pace for myself to keep at, ideally to finish the race on even pace of 4:45min/km. As due to continuous rain there was a slight delay with the race starting a 8am instead of 7:45am, so for the first time in a race I am to run in the rain for 10km. Well, I do like the cold feeling but definitely not the wet conditions.

The gun goes off sharply at 8am, I started my garmin about 2mins later as soon as I reaches the red carpet. I was quite consistent for the first 2km running at the pace as planned and only to slow down on up slopes while trying to catch up on down slopes. I took 24mins to hit the 5km mark, which on average is 4:48min/km pace, hmm... slightly off my 4:45min/km pace.... but think not too bad so long I can still keep up with this pace. The next 3km was way off my intended pace, think due to a number of up and down slopes. It was only with 2km remaining before I managed to up my pace to finish strongly.

Overall I am pleased that the average pace I kept for this race is more consistent as compared to previous races, and I managed an average pace of 4:50min/km, which it is slightly faster then my pace last year for the same event. although an improvement but sadly only very minimal different of 1 sec (4:51min/km pace), however to my surprised this year on the same running route my garmin shows a distance of 10.07km as compared to 9.78km last year when I achieved my PB of 47:27min finished. Well, based on my pace and the differences in distance covered this could have been a PB but looking back I am still not improving fast enough and getting a PB in next week's Army Half Marathon will be tough. Guess it is time to rethink on my training plans and priorities!!! While at the moment it will be an easy week for recovery after weeks of preparation.
