It was meant to be another long awaited PB and anything less than a 3:30hr finish would deem total failure! Standing at the A category starting line, I was quietly confident of a 3:20hr finish. Never would I expect my 23 weeks of preparation for Gold Coast Airport Marathon would have ended in such disappointing nightmare.
Prior to the pain I was doing fine with good running pace of about 4:35min/km, unknowingly I was even slightly faster than the 3:15hr pacer group before I soon see them just 50 meters ahead. I was feeling excited as how I wish I could end up with 3:15hr finish instead of 3:20hr. However, it was not to be as the pain soon caught up with me.
It all started with a painful right forefoot, something which never happen to me before. Soon at around 21km it was my left foot (posterior tibial tendon) that gradually started with slight pain before it became unbearable at 27km where I had to stop and walk to relief the pain before I could pick up with slow jogging pace of around 6min/km.
